Do you believe in magic?

Kano is a sly and fun-loving 15-year-old girl from the town of Kasumi. Always seen with her cute dog Potato and a yellow ribbon that her sister claims will help her do magic if she keeps it on until the day she becomes an adult, Kano likes to make up stories and see who will believe the most outrageous tale. But there's something off about her.

She dreams of flying in the sky and has an odd aura evoking the feudal era, when she comes from the modern era. These two facts set off warning bells in Kunisaki Yukito, who believed her to be Kannabi no mikoto herself, but in fact, Kano had a different connection to Kanna.

Since we all know AIR canon, I won't get into what happened to Kanna. But when she was shot by the monks and cursed, a feather fell down to the earth and was caught by a woman in town, a married ex-miko named Shiraho. When soldiers came in search of Kanna's feathers, she fled with her baby to another town. Suspected of bringing a curse upon it, she was cornered by a town elder, who told her to give up her baby as a human sacrifice to break the curse. This woman initially tried to force herself to choke the child to death, but refused in the end to kill her own baby, and killed herself instead. As for the feather, it was later found in a shrine in what was to become the town of Kasumi.

When Kano as a child wandered into the shrine and touched the feather, she became possessed by the spirit of this haunted mother. In this state, she gets glazed-over eyes and generally tries to wander to the shrine. Sometimes, when possessed, she tries to choke Kano's nearest beloved person in the same manner that the mother did her baby, and like the mother, stops herself and collapses. Kano's sister concocted the magic story and gave her the yellow band as an emotional trigger to bring her back to normal.

Kano herself is a normal girl, although she's been led to believe that she has latent magic within her. She does, however, happen to be possessed, and infused with the power of Kanna's feather. Also, since Shiraho's possession of Kano is incomplete, it only takes hold at some points, at which time her eyes turn blank, she stops responding to people and she tries to choke people and commit suicide. She can't control what she's doing and she's fairly easy to overpower.
